The Three-legged Yatagarasu:
When Emperor Jimmu set out from Kyushu to reach Yamato (modern-day Nara Prefecture), He landed in Kumano, located in the southern part of the Kii Peninsula.
As he tried to cross the rugged Yoshino Mountains, he lost his way.
At that moment, a three-legged crow, Yatagarasu, was sent from the heavens to guide him safely through the mountains into the land of Uda.
Yatagarasu is revered as the ‘deity of guidance.’
Please note the three legs in the photo.

Yatagarasu is the symbol of the Japan Football Association.

The mountain visible through the torii gate from the shrine is Mount Inasa (Inasayama).
When Emperor Jimmu crossed the Yoshino mountains and entered Uda, he was surrounded by many enemies.
It is said that Emperor Jimmu observed his enemies from the top of Mount Inasa and devised his battle strategy.
