Umami Hills Park|Flowers & Ancient Tombs in Every Season

Umasine Hills Park, a prefectural park, is located in the center of the Nara Basin, spanning approximately 3 km east to west and 7 km north to south.Visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers throughout the year, with tulips, dahlias, and sunflowers being particularly popular. The park features lawns and playgrounds, making it a lively spot for families and picnickers. Additionally, this area is home to a cluster of ancient burial mounds known as the Umami Burial Mounds, allowing visitors to experience not only the beauty of flowers but also the region’s rich history and culture.

There are plenty of parking spaces available, making it convenient to visit by car.

Electric carts operate on weekends and during event periods.
They are convenient for traveling from the northern area to the southern area.
The fare is 300 yen for adults and 100 yen for elementary school students.

Since Umasine Hills is a cluster of burial mounds, there are exhibits related to the ancient tombs on display.

This is the Nagareyama Burial Mound.

It measures 105 meters in length and dates back to the early 5th century, featuring a keyhole-shaped design. Many haniwa (terracotta figurines) were excavated from the site, and these have also been restored.

All the hills within the park are burial mounds.

This is the sunflower garden in front of the Park Pavilion.

If you head east along the wide road from the Park Pavilion, you’ll reach the Shimoike Pond.
There, I spotted a huge carp. I had never seen a carp this large before!

This is Kochia, also known as “broom grass.”

You can also enjoy autumn cosmos flowers.

This is a park in the northern area with large playground equipment.
It gets bustling with families on weekends.

You can see the mountains to the east of the Nara Basin in the distance. The foothills of those mountains are the birthplace of the “the Yamato sovereignty .”
