At Tsukigase Plum Grove, you can enjoy the sight of 10,000 beautiful plum blossoms in early spring.
The plum blossoms, set against the backdrop of Tsukigase Lake, are exceptional, and walking paths are well maintained.

Tsukigase is a part of Nara City but borders Iga City in Mie Prefecture.
To get there from Nara City, you can either drive or take a bus from JR Nara Station via Kintetsu Nara Station. However, please note that bus services are limited.
Tsukigase is a well-known spot for plum blossoms, with around 10,000 plum trees spread across the area. The blossoms reach full bloom from late February to early March.
The lake seen in the background of the photo is Tsukigase Lake, created by the Takayama Dam blocking the Nabari River.

The center of the Tsukigase Plum Grove is located in the pink area at the upper right of the red square in the middle, further up from the lake’s surface.
Additionally, ‘Tsukigase Onsen’ (hot spring) is located in the upper right.

The view reflected in the lake is beautiful.

Ryuo Falls The sign reads: ‘Training ground of En no Gyoja’

En no Gyoja was an important figure who lived at the 7th century and is considered the founder of Shugendo.
He also established the UNESCO World Heritage site ‘Omine Okugake-michi.

Shugendo is a Japanese spiritual practice that combines elements of Buddhism and Shinto. It emphasizes mountain worship, self-discipline, and the pursuit of spiritual power and enlightenment through rigorous training in nature.

It is beautiful even from above.

Shinfuku-ji Temple
It is located on a hill overlooking the Tsukigase Plum Grove.
The temple grounds also have many plum trees.
