Koyasan Station
When traveling to Koyasan by train, take the Nankai Electric Railway to Gokurakubashi Station, then ride the Koyasan Cable Car to Koyasan Station.
From there, you can take a bus to the center of Koyasan, including destinations such as Danjo Garan, Kongobuji Temple, and Okunoin.

Danjo Garan is the site where Kobo Daishi first began his work in establishing Koyasan.
Kobo Daishi personally set foot on the land and dedicated himself to building towers and halls based on Shingon Esoteric Buddhist thought.
Located at the heart of Koyasan, it has long been revered as a central place of worship, alongside Okunoin.

Rokkaku Kyo-do
This is a storage place for sutras.
What makes it unique is that you can turn the entire hall by holding onto a handle shown in the photo. It is said that by completing one full rotation, you will receive the same merit as if you had read all the sutras.

On the left is Danjo Garan, and on the upper right is Kongobuji Temple.
The path connecting these two locations is called Jabara-michi Path.

Nyonin-do

Beyond these two lanterns lies Koyasan, which was closed to women from its founding until 1872.
During this period, women would chant sutras at Nyonin-do, located beside these lanterns.

Okunoin

The ‘first bridge’ to Okunoin.

Okunoin is the spiritual center of Koyasan and the sacred site where Kobo Daishi entered eternal meditation.
The pilgrimage begins at the ‘First Bridge’ and follows a path of approximately 2 kilometers to the mausoleum.
Along this route, more than 200,000 tombstones and memorials stand amidst a forest of towering cedar trees.

Photography is not allowed at the mausoleum.
I took a break at the rest area next to the entrance.

Shukubo (Temple Lodging)

I stayed at a temple lodging right next to Danjo Garan.
