Forest Park Mount Kono is designated as a Nara Prefectural Nature Park.
The main attractions are Meemee Farm, Nabekura Valley, and the summit of Mount Kono.

Meemee Farm

It’s a sheep farm. Though not very large, it offers beautiful scenery and fresh air. This photo was taken from the parking area above Meemee Farm.
From here, it’s about a 20-minute walk to the summit of Mount Kono, so if you have time, take a stroll and enjoy the walk.

Nabekura Valley

Along the Nabekura Valley, you can find large and small black rocks that are 650 meters long and 25 meters wide. The nearby mountains are made of granite, but Mount Kono is made of a very hard rock called ‘hornblende granite.’ This rock has not eroded over time, allowing it to stay intact and gather along the valley to create its current shape.
According to legend, the tengu from Mount Aobayama in Iga and the tengu from Mount Kono were enemies and often fought. One time, their fight became very intense, and the tengu from Aobayama threw stones and trees at Mount Kono. As a result, Mount Aobayama became bare while Mount Kono became lush and green. It is said that this is also when Nabekura Valley was formed.

Mount Kono

From the summit, which stands at an elevation of 618.8 meters, you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama.
It is easy to climb while enjoying a gentle ascent from Nabekura Valley or Meemee Farm.
