Jikoin is a temple of the Rinzai sect, Daitokuji school, located in Koizumi-cho, Yamatokoriyama City. The nearest station is JR Yamato-Koizumi Station, a 1.4 km (18-minute) walk away.
It was founded in 1663 by Katagiri Sekishu (Katagiri Iwami-no-Kami Sadamasa), the second lord of the Koizumi Domain, as a family temple for his father, Sadataka, the first lord of the domain.
As the birthplace of the Sekishu school of tea ceremony, Jikoin’s simple drawing room and tea room embody the wabi aesthetic philosophy practiced by Sekishu himself, a renowned master of the tea ceremony.
The garden, featuring trimmed greenery without relying heavily on stones, is considered one of the finest gardens in Japan. It incorporates the Yamato Plain as borrowed scenery, achieving a remarkable harmony with the surrounding landscape.

The pathway leading to the entrance and the Ibaraki Castle Gate are particularly striking.
The roots of the trees and the moss along the sides of the path leave a lasting impression.

Visitors can sit here, enjoy a cup of matcha tea, and admire the garden.
