

Located at the foot of Mount Kongo, the shrine enshrines the beautiful conical peak of Shirakumo-no-Mine as its sacred object. The shrine’s deity is Takami-Musubi-no-Kami. According to the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, this deity is one of the significant deities born shortly after the creation of Japan.

The entrance to the approach leading to Takamahiko Shrine. This entire area is known as Takama-ga-hara. According to legend, this is the place where Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the grandson of Amaterasu Omikami, descended from Takama-ga-hara to Takachiho after the “Transfer of the Land” from Okuninushi-no-Mikoto.
